If you're familiar with OPI's Nail Envy, you're probably wondering why the packaging on mine is bright orange. The original formula, which comes in dark green packaging and looks slightly milkier than this one, does wonders for people who suffer from brittle and flakey nails. But when I finally got my hands on a bottle of it, I found out that it contains formaldehyde... not something I want to slather onto my nails repeatedly. This week, I stepped into a beauty supply store during my lunch break and stumbled upon the OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener for Sensitive and Peeling Nails, which is formaldehyde-free.
I haven't heard anything about this formulation of Nail Envy, and a quick search online turned up scattered and mixed reviews. So I thought I'd give it a go and see how it works for my nails, which aren't very pretty without polish. The instructions are exactly the same as those for the original Nail Envy: apply two coats of the strengthener to your nails and one additional coat every other day. You can also use Nail Envy as a base coat under nail polish or as a top coat. So far I've only used it once as a base coat, and although it's too early to say whether it works, I can tell you that my nail polish has lasted three days without chipping once. I plan to ditch nail polish some days and just use this on its own. I will report back on how it works here! And if you're interested in checking it out: US link/UK link.
Have you used nail strengthener, and did it work for you?

I picked up a product like this not too long ago from Sally Hansen to help with my awful nails (I get acrylics and don't go get them professionally removed and it screws up my nails for weeks!). This one sounds about the same, but OPI of course has more appealing packaging. Cant wait to hear how it works for you!

ReplyDeleteYou know, a lot of people have no idea how damaging formaldehyde can be. I'm glad you did a post on this! Not to mention I really need some! I just did my nails the night before last and hurt my thumb nail badly :/ My nails are just weak sometimes.

Can't wait to hear your review on this! I've been using the Posche 4 in 1 treatment for weak nails and it's my base coat of choice for many years!

I've taken supplements to strengthen my nails which worked really good for me.. Sadly my nails are quite brittle as well and I have to regularly stay off nail polish.
ReplyDeleteThis seems awesome! I hope it works out for you. I use a nail strenghthener and find that it definitely helps prevent peeling and breaking which I had more of before.
ReplyDeleteOoh I had no idea they had this formula, it sounds perfect for my nails so I think I'll have to give it a try!

Looks like a pretty good item. I remember when I worked at a company (which deal with nail products) I saw several Nail Envys. Look forward to seeing how it goes after..! xo akiko

My nails used to be very weak, and I picked up a bottle of nail strengthener from Sally's. It worked okay for my nails for a bit. But now, all I do is file down my nails and they are perfect.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it came without formaldehyde -- such great news! I always use it as a base coat because I have such weak nails and it makes such a huge difference.
