The Clarins Cleansing Milk with Gentian has become one of my go-to SOS cleansers, the one I reach for when my skin is irritated and dehydrated. It leaves my sensitive, combination skin feeling balanced, not tight, and even though it doesn't contain your typical blemish-fighting ingredients, I've had clearer, dewier skin throughout the month that I've been using it.
The cleansing milk contains gentian, a natural anti-inflammatory, and iris and hawthorne, natural anti-bacterials, as well as vitamins A and E. Clarins recommends a specific method of cleansing with it. First, warm a small amount between the palms of your dry hands and then place your hands against your face without pressing, holding for a few seconds. Then, lift your hands briskly away from your face, "suctioning" off any impurities and makeup. Repeat five or six times (or ten just to be safe!), then rinse with water. It's important not to add water to the cleansing process until rinsing the product off your face.

Because I prefer to use my Clarisonic for deep-cleansing and makeup removal, I use the Clarins cleansing milk every morning and whenever I'm not wearing much makeup and want to wash my face. If you're going to use this product in the evenings, I'd recommend double-cleansing to remove every trace of impurities. At $30, the large 200ml bottle is affordable and should last you a few months.
The only downside is that this product isn't as natural as some other options on the market. It does contain parabens and fragrance, and although I'm partial to the slightly powdery scent, others might find it overwhelming. When this does finally run out, I will probably try something more natural, but I'm thankful to know that this is a safe fall-back option and a savior whenever my skin seems to misbehave in every way!
Have you tried Clarins cleansers?

I have a few clarins bits and bobs- foundations, lotus oil and the liquid bronze and am pretty happy with most of them. This sounds like a really unique way of cleansing! xx

Never tried any Clarins cleansers before. This one sounds nice and I love that it has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredients in it.

I don't think I could use this, I have had bad reactions from products with fragrance in it before sadly :(
ReplyDeleteI think Clarins are fab for there cleansers as they're so moisturising. Shame about the scent though! xx

I am a huge fan of the Clarins cleanser, I use the one with Alpine herbs for dry/normal skin. Although I love my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish if my skin if feeling dry and in need of that little extra moisture this is always what I go for. Your post has actually just reminded me that I need to buy some more lol. Great review :)

I love cleansing milks but I the ingredients on this products don't seem too great. Try the REN Clearcalm 3 Claryfing Clay Cleanser. It does wonders for my skin and its perfect for sensitive skins!
ReplyDeleteI think I actually have a sample of this somewhere... I should really try it, it sounds super gentle.

Good news Ella! All Clarins face products, including Gentian Cleansing Milk has gone completely Paraben free in 2013. Therefor, next time you head to the Clarins counter, you'll notice the packaging has changed slightly, and that Parabens are excluded from the ingredients list. You don't need to find an alternative :)
