Okay, "detox" is a bit of an exaggeration. Because no, I won't be juicing every meal, cutting out all sugar, eating only raw, or attempting any other feats of willpower that constitute true detoxes. I am going on a mini-mission to cleanse my diet. I've developed a bad cookie-a-day + sugar/caffeine cocktails habit, and I've been saying "I'll eat healthier tomorrow!" for quite a few tomorrows on end. So I decided today is the day when I start following through. I had a trio of fruits for breakfast along with coffee (don't be fooled, there's no sugar in that Starbucks mug!) and (later) a homemade granola bar.
In blogging about beauty and skincare, it seems necessary to mention that a healthy diet is my number one most important key to feeling and looking my best. No matter how many times people have dismissed the link between diet and acne, I truly feel that my skin is clearer if I cut back on "empty calories" and eat more fresh, natural ingredients. I also just live better when I eat healthfully... I have more energy and fewer cravings.
I've never followed a strict diet, and I personally don't believe in counting calories, but I do feel the need every so often to be more conscientious about what I put into my body. The main (only) rule I follow is kind of a no-brainer: less of the bad, more of the good. I'm looking forwarding to raiding the aisles of Whole Foods and trying some vegan dessert recipes. After all, I'll still need my chocolate fix! Anyone else trying to eat more healthfully?

So agree! Healthy eating and drinking, is a main part of healthy skin!!

I don't understand people that say that there's no link with an unhealthy diet equalling bad skin..Of course there is! I notice it every time I go out drinking one night..the next day there's always a spot.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on that whole 'cookie-a-day' thing..I have such a sweet tooth! I'm trying to eat more 'good' foods as well, so we'll see how that goes, hopefully well..

Mmmm, that fruit looks so yummy! Yes, I've been on a similar quest lately. I don't eat junk food often, but I'm eternally getting take-out (which usually isn't the healthiest and costs a lot!), so I've been resolving to bring my lunch every day and it's made a big difference! Also cooking dinner more, so I'm definitely eating a lot more fresh, unprocessed food. Think it's really helping. Good luck on the detox :)

Good for you! I did a cleanse last week but I think it was too extreme for me because I went right back to eating the way I did before. This is a much better approach -- I really need to start cutting coffee and bagels out of my diet!
ReplyDeleteVery true, quite a few things seem better when you eat healthier. I was doing very well this year but I may have fallen off the wagon recently...time to get back on it I think! :)

Several of my clients were very surprised when their skin problems cleared up when they did a cleanse. There are other factors involved in acne but eting a healthy diet is a place to start.
ReplyDeleteUghhh, I need to as well. I say this as I finish eating a bowl of chips.. lol.
ReplyDeleteThat fruit looks so good too! I want to make my own granola and start eating healthier too!
I love granola, but I also have a huge weakness for...potatoes...in every form. Fries, chips, baked, fried and I actually CRAVE them!
